A Newbies View......and a lich encounter.......

By Wikkr

Part one.......a greeting.......

Greetings too all... My name is Wikkr... I am the 5th incarnation of the pround name of Wikkr. I am aware that even now I am the weakest link in the guild but I pledge to thee that if there is ever any need you have that Ican fulfill then you should not hesitate to call on me.

I look forward to the day when my skills are strong enough to aid you all in battle so that we may join together and desimate the enemy, or just explore a dungeon. Until then you will see me often training in the farm, im almost strong enough to take on a bull on my own, and to many I am sure this may seem a trifle but as of now my skill is that of a journeyman, but some day I shall be a grandmaster.

I look forward to meating all of you and cannot wait for the adventures I am sure we shall have.

Part two......a first encounter with a lich........

Hail All ! I come to you today with a tale of courage(or insanity). It was on my travels in the woods of moonglow that I came across the town crier calling for all warriors to head for the graveyard! It was said that the undead where invading and a lich lord had been spotted leading the attack! As I had never seen one I headed straight for the fight, pausing only to great my brother Aston who was off to the inn after a hard day in the woods taming anything that came by.

As I arrived I came across a scene of mass destruction! There where bodies of all description all over the place and the fighting was still fierce. I joined a group under attack by 5 skeletons and continued from there. It appears that the lich lord had been killed outright by a group of order knights who where now taking down the lesser of the undead.

After many hours it seemed hopeless! The fight was continuing strong but for every undead that was killed two more appeared in there place. Soon they where spilling out of the gates and heading for the town! After some time I was clearing a group of skeletons with my new ally Qwerty when we realized that most of the knights had abandoned the fight to deposit loot into there banks.

There was me three young men and an apprentice mage. We talked for a while as the fighting appeared to be over. I learned from the young men that they had just gotten off of a boat from the town of haven. Three young swordsman who had not yet felt the blade of an enemy slice through their chest. The mage had been training in the forest, like me, and was quite perplexed by the situation that had unfolded.

Suddenly we where disturbed by the indescribable laughter of a lich and I heard one of the young warriors scream as the lich emerged from the ground and stood upright not three feet from his face. Without even thinking his blade was brought up to fight the lich and as soon as the shock of this sudden appearance had worn off his two friend joined him in battle to fight this evil creature. I stood mesmerized by the creature, it seemed to be toying with the three young men it just stood there laughing as they attacked it! However its laughter soon turned to a screech of pain as a column of fire appeared on top of him, the apprentice mage had finished his battle with a skeleton and had turned his attention on the lich.

I turned and saw that one of the young warriors was injured gravely, grabbing my bandages I rushed over and healed him just in time. I then joined in to help kill this evil creature and send it back to the pit it belonged to. The fight lasted several minutes and one of the young warriors died, only to be resurrected by one of the order mages who had returned to battle again. With the help of the stream of healing spells from the mages, our continuos attacks on the lich had weakened it to a point where I sensed it would run for safety. As it turned to run I saw my chance and made the killing blow with my GM Katana severing the head from the neck and with an unholy scream the lich fell dead.

After we had healed I looked over the lich to find it had a wealth of loot! I nearly picked it all up when I noticed the look on the young men's faces. They could not bring themselves to contest my right to the loot so I decided that it would be best to give them their share, since there conscience prevented them from taking it, and so we each left with 50gp and a magic wand I gave my pouch of reagents to the apprentice mage as thanks for keeping us alive. I also attempted to give the scrolls I found on the body to the order mage but he refused it saying the chance to help had satisfied him.

With that I set for my room at the inn after, depositing my loot into the bank, where I fell asleep questioning the wisdom of that young man attempting to take on the lich. One thing is for certain they are not young men anymore for they have looked into the horror that is a liches face and have survived to tell about it. As for me i was happy that my skills had raised and I felt that my stamina was higher than ever. Perhaps ill try to kill another lich....... some day.
